These days I’m looking at patterns, and how the repetition of them allows for powerful contrasts. When a pattern is so solid and engrained that you anticipate it, how do you respond to change? I am thinking about this in my life, as well as in my art-making. Fair Isle and stranded knitting patterns are particularly interesting to me – both visually and conceptually. A pattern of two colors at a time, with no more than 4 stitches of a single color in a row, creates thousands of beautiful repetitions. I want to play with this, and create spontanaiety, like a day off in the middle of the week.
